Dennis Rodman vs The Pinata, or is it the other way ’round?

It should come as no surprise that I’d take groove over goth any day. So in the as far as flamboyant make-up wearing, boa-cloaked, spandex-clad 90′s celebrities go, I’ve always been more fascinated by colorful Dennis Rodman than Gloomy Gus Marilyn Manson. As symbols of the Masculine and Feminine in all of us, they both horrified and inspired. At the height of their fame, each was slandered and venerated. The violent spectacle of breaking a pinata is a group exorcism of inner and societal demons. In this painting, Dennis Rodman and the pinata are effigies of our internal (and perhaps sub/un-conscious) gender identity crises, questions and declarations.
