Lollypoppy Skirt

lollypoppy skirt

2007

I started off with just a circle pattern, but it morphed into a floral when I realized the design needed a little something extra. I based the design off a poppy pattern that was popular in the late 70′s/early 80′s I can remember seeing everywhere as a child: my brother’s 1st birthday cake paper plates; the valances in my favorite cousin T’s bedroom in their old house; some sheets or towels my parents had. This pattern also reminds me of the artwork of Candace Briceño, a well-known artist here in Austin. Sits at top of hip, cotton, women’s US size 6/8.
