These two videos have inspired me of late (stupid javascript messed up my layout when I tried to embed them). Apparently everyone else in the world except the U.S. dances this way right now.

I’m really, REALLY happy with the way the way this lettering came out! I accidentally bought pearlized paint, but I love how it makes the letters all shiny. Inspired by the Miracles community center boombox in Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo. Most people get songs stuck in their heads; I get songs AND type stuck in my head. I’ve been obsessed with this for about 3 weeks. If you want to see what I’m talkin’ about it’s in the first 10 minutes of what’d be considered aB movie, so if you hate B movies you don’t have to sit through the whole thing. Although it’s worth grinding your teeth through the awful script just for the music, dancing and fashion. This shirt will undergo more strategic ripping, I just didn’t want to shred it all the way before painting the letters on. If this ever winds up in a thrift store, I’m sure anyone who looks at it will think the same thing that’s crossed my mind many a time in the t-shirt section, “What the heck is this?” Well, it makes sense to me and that’s all that matters. I’m going to wear it on my birthday next week.

Vintage fabric from one of my all-time favorite dresses on Urban Outfitters t-shirt. The dress was originally a maxi, but the print in thick polyester was a bit much for the eye, so I shortened it. There was a lot of fabric left over, which I’ve kept over the years.

This one’s definitely been a work in progress. I cut this sweatshirt and sewed the buttons on it while I was still in college (2002?) when I had this idea to sew dainty vintage buttons on 80’s sweatshirts and turn them into sweaters. I wore this a few times and into oblivion it went after I moved 4 times in 6 months the following year. The puff paint was added a couple of days ago. Now I feel like I can part with it.

The buttons came from a massive collection that my friend inherited from her great aunt. I call it the Breakfast on Pluto sweater because it looks like Patricia Kitten’s festive Catholic school sweater from that movie. I set this piece aside for several months, after finishing the the sleeve in March. I felt it needed some other detail, besides the cool buttons. When I took it up again last week, the idea hit me that it would be cool to use a gradient of rainbow embroidery thread. Women’s size XS.
